Nature's Synergy - Adaptogens and Flow States
TrueLife podcaster George Monty and I unravel the mysteries of human potential through the potent trifecta of flow states, botanicals, and the endocannabinoid system.
More than any other video George and I uncover topics in this video that set my work and ideas apart from other thinkers.
As a young man, I caddied throughout the 1980s and carried the golf bags of many successful people.
Here are some thoughts on entrepreneurship I learned through this process.
Thank you to Unleash Your Free Spirit, an entrepreneur, support group, and so much more for inviting me to share my stories.
Flow State Experiences
Flow State Experiences: An Introduction - part 1
Accessing flow states, often called being in "the zone," can improve work and job performance.
When out of flow, our nervous system is overly self-involved, and we miss seeing a universe of opportunities. This self-involvement can also disrupt communication processes.
Flow allows for deep concentration on the task at hand, minimizing distractions.
This heightened focus can lead to faster completion of tasks, fewer mistakes, and higher overall productivity.
Flow states are fun, and foster creative thinking, making you more likely to make novel connections and develop innovative solutions to problems.

Flow: The Synergy of Skill and Challenge - part 2
The conditions for entering flow include balancing challenges or actions with your skills and clear, well-defined goals with quick feedback.
To achieve flow, your skill must be in balance with the challenge at hand. Skill and Challenge The flow state relates to the individual's skill relative to the activity's perceived challenges.
The discovery of more complex behaviors from Flow can result in an emergent experience that can transform a challenging task into an intrinsically motivating one.

Neurologic Features of the Flow State Experience - How Flow Silences the Inner Critic (part 1 of 5)
Flow is accompanied by reduced over-thinking about oneself.
Neurologically, the default mode network DMN is down regulated as it is during meditative states.
There is a reduction in self-consciousness, which in this case implies low levels of self-obsession and not worrying about what others would be thinking of oneself.
Stage fright or speaking up or leading a meeting is an example of the opposite of flow.
When we’re in flow, we don’t block ourselves, and we are not our own worst enemy.

The Flow Formula - Unlocking Peak Performance in Music, Art, and Sport
Flow states, often described as being "in the zone," are psychological states characterized by complete absorption in a task, resulting in heightened focus, productivity, and a sense of enjoyment and fulfillment.
Individuals experiencing flow frequently have clear goals and a high level of dedication.
Think of a musician, painter, martial artist, or athlete practicing over and over, engaging in their tasks for extended periods. Another dimension is feedback about the process , because during flow we need to know how our performance is going.

"If we really want to live, we'd better start at once to try: If we don't, it doesn't matter, but we'd better start to die" - W.H.Auden
Biological existence is inherently programmed, functioning seamlessly when bodily needs are met. However, truly living, as poets describe, requires a sense of beauty and flow.
Without this sense of the flow of our life's course, external forces inevitably dominate.
Innate instincts drive us to follow our genetic legacy; societal norms press us to reinforce cultural values and institutions; and the influence of other humans may siphon our vitality for their own self oriented objectives.
These external forces can be thought of as winds of influence in our lives.
But these winds can offer us freedom.
If we think of human life as likened to a sailing vessel, the winds are guides of power.
And we have the rudder of our minds vision to steer the ship.
#SweetwaterHolistic #FlowTherapy Only through focused direction can we escape being mere instruments for external interests.

What is Homeostasis?
Homeostasis and homeostatic systems, such as the ECS, help our bodies maintain an equilibrium of these different physiologic systems in a dynamic and rapidly changing world.
How Adaptogenic Herbs Illuminate the Principles of Homeostasis
One of the best ways to understand homeostasis is to look at adaptogenic herbs, as they have so much to teach us about biologic resiliency.
What is an adaptogenic herb?: Adaptogens increase non-specific resistance to stress and decrease sensitivity to stressors, which results in a more stable and robust biological organism.
Adaptogens have been known for centuries. The name adaptogen, however, is relatively recent.
Adaptogens include Rhodiola, Licorice, Ginseng, Cannabis, Ashwagandha, Schizandra berry, *Blueberry, and Turmeric
Adaptogens and Heat Shock Proteins - Allies in Homeostasis and Cellular Health
Think of Adaptogens as a group of herbal preparations that increase tolerance to the effects of physical or mental exhaustion and enhance attention and mental endurance in situations of decreased performance.
Adaptogens' Role in Modulating FOXO Activity for Better Health
Adaptogens are plants that increase tolerance to the effects of physical or mental stress and enhance endurance and performance.
Forkhead Box O (FOXO) Transcription Factor DAF-16: FOXO factors are crucial in regulating cellular processes like cell cycle control, oxidative stress resistance, and apoptosis.
For instance, reduced FOXO activity is associated with increased oxidative stress, aging, and cancer progression.
With adaptogens in this pathway, we see increased life span in animal studies.
Homeostatic organizing principles underlying life are diverse and intertwined.
Interconnection can make the properties of homeostasis challenging to study and isolate under laboratory conditions. We can only isolate, under laboratory conditions, localized, disconnected, and simple effects.
One disconnect is that homeostasis represents the whole of physiology, and to say something about the whole and state it logically; we have to be able to put homeostasis into classification systems that don’t represent the whole.
We can’t say anything about everything because to say something about everything and state it logically, we have to be able to put the whole into classes that don’t represent the entirety.
How Adaptogenic Herbs Modulate Homeostasis and Aging via Nitric Oxide
Homeostasis and homeostatic systems, such as the ECS, help our bodies maintain an equilibrium of these different physiologic systems in a dynamic and rapidly changing world.
In this video, I discuss Nitric Oxide, whose physiology some people say is the holy grail of inflammation and aging.
There are nine major physiological and biochemical pathways where adaptogens help maintain homeostasis.
Nitric Oxide (NO) is a critical signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system, immune response, and neurotransmission. It's a gas produced in the body that helps relax and dilate blood vessels, and it helps maintain good, healthy blood pressure.ere are nine major physiological and biochemical pathways where adaptogens help maintain homeostasis.

CBD and the Heart

Cardioprotective Effects of CBD - Research Review
In another study in rats, the antioxidant properties of CBD reduced lipid peroxidation, protecting heart muscle from cardiotoxicity.
CBD Reduces Inflammation and Improves Heart Health in Mice
CBD treatment significantly reduced inflammation markers (IL-6, IL1β, and IFN-γ) in mouse hearts, leading to improved cardiac function, diminished #inflammation, heart injury, and myocardial fibrosis.
The authors stated: “CBD treatment significantly attenuated mRNA expression of the proinflammatory IL-6, IL1β and IFN-γ”

Research Review - CBD Protects Rat Hearts from Arrhythmias and Muscle Damage - part 4
Research Review: Antioxidant Effects of CBD in the Hearts of Mice - part 5
Here’s another pretty cool study: The authors showed that CBD treatment in mice markedly improves heart function, reduces oxidative and cardiac muscle cell death, and increases the function of mitochondria in the heart.
Mitochondria produce energy for the cells. Improved mitochondrial function benefits health by increasing energy production, and assists in antioxidant protection by reducing oxidative stress.
The authors in this study state that CBD treatment in the mice “markedly improved heart function, reduced oxidative and cardiac muscle cell death”, and “increased the function of mitochondria in the heart”.
